Taking the next steps. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ (also known as the “Gentle Art”) progressed from the Japanese martial art Judo into its own individual specialty. The application of BJJ centers around utilizing leverage and angles to control an opponent. In turn, the art emphasizes joint locks, submissions and chokes. As a result, this allows a smaller/weaker person to gain advantage over a larger/stronger person in a physical altercation.
The two most common forms of practice in BJJ are Gi (practitioners train in a kimono) and NoGi (practitioners train in shorts and shirt or rashguard). Our structured classes operate in the Gi and our open mat times are open for both Gi and NoGi practice.
“Jiu Jitsu at the end of the day, is the art of expressing yourself honestly. Every time you put on a Gi, you can’t lie.”
Jiu Jitsu delivers a wide array of benefits that other sports and fitness activities simply cannot match. Furthermore, these benefits extend well beyond your time on the mat, significantly improving the quality of your everyday life ...
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is most often practiced with the Kimono (gi). The gi allows for a wider range of techniques due to the manipulation of the sleeves, pants, and jacket. The gi also promotes a slower, more methodical game which forces the user to think more strategically about their attacks and defenses.
